Boat Lifts in Placida, FL

Placida’s shallow tidal waters, salt exposure, and hurricane season make choosing the right boat lift one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a waterfront homeowner. A properly installed lift keeps your hull out of corrosive saltwater, prevents storm damage, and saves you thousands in long-term maintenance. Speeler Gibson Marine Construction installs and services boat lifts across the Placida and greater Charlotte Harbor area, matched to your vessel, your dock, and your specific water conditions.

What Does Boat Lifts Include in Placida?

  • Full site evaluation of your waterfront, including water depth, tidal range, bottom conditions, and dock structure
  • Custom lift selection matched to your boat’s weight, beam width, and hull type so nothing is undersized or wasted
  • Professional piling installation using marine-grade materials rated for Gulf Coast salt and storm exposure
  • Cradle and bunk configuration designed to support your specific vessel without pressure points or hull distortion
  • Electrical wiring and motor setup with corrosion-resistant components and GFCI protection for safety
  • Remote control or smart switch options so you can operate your lift from the dock or your phone
  • Post-installation walkthrough covering daily operation, maintenance intervals, and seasonal storm prep
  • Permit coordination with Charlotte County to keep your project compliant from day one

Signs You Need Boat Lifts in Placida

  1. Your boat sits in the water full-time and the hull is covered in barnacles, algae, or osmotic blisters that cost hundreds to clean each season
  2. You’re hauling your boat on a trailer every time you want to get on the water near Coral Creek or the Gasparilla Area
  3. Your existing lift motor struggles, stalls, or makes grinding sounds when raising or lowering your vessel
  4. Cables on your current lift show fraying, rust, or uneven tension, which is a serious safety hazard in tidal conditions
  5. You recently bought a larger boat and your old lift doesn’t have the capacity to handle the added weight

How Boat Lifts Works for You in Placida, FL

  1. Waterfront assessment: We visit your property, measure water depth at high and low tide, inspect your dock’s structural capacity, and note any permitting requirements specific to your stretch of shoreline.
  2. Lift recommendation: Based on your vessel’s specs and your site conditions, we recommend the exact lift type, capacity, and configuration that fits, whether it’s a four-post, elevator, or PWC platform.
  3. Permitting and scheduling: We handle your Charlotte County permit application and coordinate the installation timeline around your schedule and seasonal weather patterns.
  4. Professional installation: Our crew drives pilings, mounts the lift, wires the motor, and tests every component under load before we hand you the controls.
  5. Final walkthrough and support: We show you exactly how to operate your new lift, explain maintenance basics, and remain available for service calls whenever you need us.

Why Placida Homeowners Choose Speeler Gibson Marine Construction for Boat Lifts

Speeler Gibson Marine Construction has been building docks, seawalls, and boat lifts on Florida’s Gulf Coast for decades. That means we’ve handled just about every combination of water depth, bottom type, vessel size, and weather exposure you’ll find in the Placida and Charlotte Harbor area. We don’t sell one brand of lift and force it to fit. We match the lift system to your specific property and boat, period. If you want to understand what to consider when purchasing a boat lift, we’ve laid it out clearly.

We’re a licensed marine contractor, not a handyman operation. Every lift we install is engineered for the load it carries, permitted through the proper channels, and built with hardware that holds up to saltwater immersion year after year. Our crews are experienced with the shallow draft conditions near Placida and the tidal swings that define Charlotte Harbor. We also handle a full range of boat lift services, from new installations to motor replacements and cable swaps on existing systems.

When a storm warning hits, you want to know the company that built your lift answers the phone. We’ve been here through every major hurricane season, and we’ll be here for the next one.

DIY Boat Lift vs. Professional Installation: What Placida Homeowners Should Know

Some homeowners consider assembling a boat lift themselves using kit systems sold online. In calm, freshwater lakes with stable bottoms, that can work. Placida is a different situation entirely. You’re dealing with tidal fluctuations in Charlotte Harbor, soft or uneven bottom sediment near the Myakka River outflow, and salt exposure that destroys anything not properly spec’d for marine use. A misaligned piling or undersized cradle can damage your hull or drop your boat during a storm surge.

Professional installation means your pilings are driven to the correct depth, your lift capacity matches your vessel’s actual loaded weight, and all electrical work meets Florida code. It also means your permit is handled correctly. Charlotte County requires permits for most dock and lift work, and mistakes can result in fines or forced removal.

Speeler Gibson Marine Construction has been building marine structures along Florida’s Gulf Coast for decades. We know what holds up in Placida’s conditions and what fails after the first hurricane season. If you want a lift that works reliably for years, professional installation is the only route that makes sense here.

Areas We Serve Across Placida, FL

Speeler Gibson Marine Construction installs boat lifts for homeowners across Placida and the surrounding waterfront communities of Charlotte and Sarasota counties. Whether your property sits along the canals in Rotonda Sands, faces the open Gulf on Don Pedro Island or Little Gasparilla Island, or backs onto the calm waters near Cape Haze and Coral Creek, we design every lift for the conditions at your specific dock. We also serve homeowners on Boca Grande, throughout the Gasparilla Area, and near Englewood Beach and Placida Beach. Each of these areas has its own mix of water depth, bottom composition, and tidal behavior that affects how a lift should be built. If you’re planning new dock work alongside your lift, our guide on dock construction planning and permits covers what to expect.

Your Boat Lifts Questions Answered — Placida, FL

What size boat lift do I need for my dock in Placida?

You need a lift rated for at least 20% more than your boat’s fully loaded weight, including fuel, gear, and water. For example, if your bay boat weighs 5,500 pounds loaded, you’d want at least a 7,000-pound capacity lift. Water depth and tidal range at your specific location along Charlotte Harbor also determine whether a bottom-standing or top-mounted design works best. Speeler Gibson Marine Construction measures all of this during a site visit.

Do I need a permit to install a boat lift in Charlotte County, FL?

Yes. Charlotte County requires a building permit for boat lift installations, and depending on your location you may also need approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Properties near aquatic preserves or mangrove zones, common near Placida and Gasparilla Pass, often have additional requirements. We handle the permit process as part of every project.

How do I protect my boat lift during hurricane season in Placida?

Lower your boat into the water or remove it from the lift entirely before a major storm so wind can’t catch the hull. Disconnect electrical power to the lift motor. Inspect cables and hardware after the storm passes before using the lift again. Speeler Gibson Marine Construction offers pre-storm and post-storm inspections to catch damage early.

How long does a boat lift installation take in Placida?

Most residential boat lift installations take between two and five days, depending on piling conditions and lift type. Soft bottom sediment, which is common in parts of Coral Creek and the Gasparilla Area, can add time if pilings need to be driven deeper. Permitting timelines with Charlotte County can add a few weeks before work begins.

What is the best boat lift type for shallow water near Placida in 2026?

Elevator-style lifts and low-profile platform lifts work best in the shallow tidal areas around Placida, Don Pedro Island, and Little Gasparilla Island. These designs accommodate minimal water depth while still providing full clearance at low tide. We evaluate your exact depth and tidal swing before recommending a specific model.

Gibson Marine went above and beyond with our seawall and backyard. Starting with Mike coming out explaining everything and giving us a very fair estimate for the amount of work they had to do. Then getting updates from Candace when the permits and job was starting was on point. The crew of 5 guys that came out were hands down best workers we have seen. They built us a brand new seawall and brought in over 5 trucks of dirt to level our yard in like 6 days! The were so professional and worked nonstop. We are happy we went with Gibson Marine and would recommend them to anyone that needs a seawall.

We had a tremendous experience with Gibson Marine. Mike, Candace, Greg, and all the crew members were so easy to work with and there was constant communication. Our new seawall is absolutely beautiful!! It's no wonder they do this work on all the homes in our neighborhood. As homeowners, we have found it challenging to find companies that actually follow through so if you are looking for a business that will respond quickly and get the job done right, call them. If we had to do it all over again, I would, without hesitation, work with them again. Thanks for all the hard work that was done to improve our property. We are happy customers :-) -Lake Tarpon

Gibson Marine has just completed our condo seawall. Each stage of work was handled professionally. Communication was excellent as well as follow through. Any questions or concerns were addressed to our satisfaction every time. All crew members were respectful of our property and owners. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Gibbson Marine. How many contractors can you say that about. Seawall looks fantastic.

Evaluated many seawall contractors and man am I glad I went with Gibson Marine, I am blessed to have picked the right company. I was very particular with how to sister and join the original dock to the moved pilings and they really got it right. They even used the stainless tackle I provided and added to it. They also came back and put every single thing back where it goes, which I appreciated being injured a little bit currently. The seawall itself is a work of art. PJ Paver did a great job as did Di’Mond electrician. IMHO Gibson Marine sets itself apart in the Pinellas sea wall market. Thanks guys!
